Lucía Vázquez Guerra is a Cuban American artist born and raised in Miami, FL. The arts and music have always been a part of their life, largely thanks to their grandparents who are Cuban musicians. Quickly realizing Lucía’s love for music and storytelling, their family placed them in singing, dancing, and acting classes. Their love for musicals started when they were in their first musical production and has only grown since then. Their love of the arts led them to New World School of the Arts (class of 2020), where they studied vocal performance, and later Ball State University (class of 2025), where they got their BFA in Musical Theatre and BA in Spanish. Some of Lucía’s favorite works includes Lucy the Slut & Others (Avenue Q), Rene Rivera & Others (Sonnets for an Old Century), Bobby Strong (Urinetown), and Tapper (Tap!).Lucía’s passion for social justice and advocacy through the arts drives their work. They believe that the arts is one of the best ways to connect with people and to spark discussion on hard yet important topics. This motivated Lucía to create and spearhead Artists for Inclusivity’s Color Showcase, join the Alumni Ambassadors program, and join their department’s Student Advisory Committee. Lucía wishes to bring more latiné art to the musical theatre industry, continue working on projects that challenge our current society, uplift and celebrate marginalized communities, and teach a younger generation the joys of the arts.
“Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.” - Augusto Boal
